Biography

Michael Echaniz is one of the brightest young musicians, composers, and artists emerging from the San Francisco Bay Area. A student of music since classical piano lessons at the age of five and guitar at the age of nine, Michael discovered the world of jazz music in high school and immediately fell in love. Michael studied music at Santa Clara University before transferring to the California Jazz Conservatory, earning a B.M. at the first undergraduate institution solely conceived and accredited for the study of jazz music. Michael is an avid performer, playing alongside internationally-renowned artists such as Jeff Denson, Romain Pilon, Tammy Scheffer, Erik Jekabson, and Nick Rossi in Bay Area venues such as Yoshi’s and Black Cat as well showcases in Italy’s Umbria Jazz Festival and Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival. Michael has won numerous awards including the 2018 Dick Hindman Prize in Jazz Piano, 2018 Jazz Search West, the 2017 Reno Jazz Festival’s 1st Place College Combo, and the 2018 Reno Jazz Festival’s 2nd Place College Combo. Michael is currently applying to several prestigious graduate programs in jazz studies and has plans for a debut album release on Ridgeway Records in 2020.
